Half/Empty—by Dennis Hart and Chris Doremus

A not-so-triumphant return

Half/Empty is back, ladies and gentleman! After a long and long-needed break, I have decided to set myself aside and start talking with my favorite people again... Dean, Tif, Scott, and Denzel. I have missed them tremendously and can't wait to start telling their story again.

The five of you who read this comic may need a readers Digest version of the reason why the strip quit for so long. Depression. Basically, I lost my job a while back and found another that was already in the process of going under. I was able to jump ship before anything major has happened again, but am now floundering in my new workplace of 2 weeks. Now, I'm going to try and stay anonymous with my workplace references here as my intention is not to point fingers. I've been having a hard time designing the right materials for the client I was assigned and may end up loosing my job because of it.

Yes, this IS how my life ends up. I named this strip Half/Empty for a reason.

The good news is I'm back and, most likely, for good. This is the only thing I've ever been successful with and I really want to pursue it. I hope all of you are excited and I hope I can entertain you in those moments you have that sound like my little depressive splurge.

Been a While

For those of who are still checking up once a while, I figured I'd let you know what's been going on. I'm still in search of a full-time gig. I vowed that I wouldn't start the strip up until I was employed, so I apologize for the long break. Things are decennt. We had to move from the big house we were renting to a smaller 2 bedroom apartment, but it's all good. Things will turn around for us, it's just a matter of when. I hope all is well with all of you. I miss all of you.

A Brief Halt.

Well, some of you came for a laugh and some of you came just to see if I'd post anything. As of today, I'm haulting production of Half/Empty until I can find work for myself. Many of you know I am a graphic designer by trade and that I've been unemployed for most of the past 6 months. Although Half/Empty doesn't take up my whole week, I need to be spending every moment I have making promos and grabbing some clients. We've been able to make ends meet, but if I don't find work in the next week, we're going to be forced to move out of the house we're renting now.

For all of you that are like "Damnit! Another comic down the tube." That's not the case. I fully intend to start back up again. Half/Empty has a great cast and I've loved building the characters and doing the art, I just need to re-focus my priorities for now. I commend all of you that have had hard times and keep going, but my design career is what keeps this family afloat and I just can't ignore that. I know those of you that do this for a living can understand that.

In closing, I am truly sorry as I LOVE doing these, but this has become too big a problem at this point. I've put this decision off for about 2 months hoping I would get something, but nothing ever goes through. It's time to start showing this industry what I can really do. I hope you all understand. When I start again, you can be assured that I will be running ads all over the comic boards and sites so everyone knows. Thank you all again, you've been wonderful fans. Just cross your fingers that I find work soon.

A free root canal anyone?

So, I've had this tooth that's been bugging me lately. It broke while I was eating some bread at this resturaunt... yes, bread. Well, I went to the dentist only to find it was a baby tooth! I'm 30 and still have a baby tooth. Well, I went in for the follow-up to do a pulpotomy and he ends up doing a root canal on me. What's more is he doesn't tell me as he's doing it! Now, I have to give him credit, he was great and didn't even charge me for the root canal, but only for the pulpotomy which was far less. Still, though, it was something to hear the nurse say "well, he ended up doing a root canal after all" as the dentist left the office.

In other news, I have an interview scheduled for Tuesday morning at that design agency that I mentioned last week. It looks very promising and it would mean a lot if all of you crossed your fingers for me. This family needs some cashflow or we're going to have to move.

I've posted a desktop in the downloads section of scott in the bear outfit. I haven't gotten around to coloring that strip yet, but the desktop is colored. I completed the coloring for Disappointment 64 and am almost done with 65. I know you guys have been great about not bitching about the sketches and I thank you, so I will do my best to get through 2 of them this week. Aside from all that, I'm not sure I've got anything else to report, so I shall catch you later.
